Baking Bread

06/18/12

We got to make some bread :)  Grace loves helping me!!!  And I love when we get the chance to bake bread together.
We don't have too many pictures, but regardless, every memory needs a picture or two :)  We are taking the bread to the dehydrator so it could rise for an hour.
Grace kept wanting to shove her hands through the plastic :)  Silly girl!
Thank you for helping me Grace!!  Soon enough you will be baking bread loaves right along side me!

Father's Day

06/17/12

Grace had such a beautiful card for Daddy for Father's Day!

I had to help Grace go the right way to give Daddy her card because she was SO excited about the card :)
 There we go..."Happy Father's Day!!!"
Look how well she did with her coloring!  So many different little pictures :)
"Dad" with little fishies :)  So sweet!
And then Daddy went in the backyard to do some work, so she sat inside watching him.  It was just too windy for her to go outside, so she and Elmo watched him.  Isn't it so sweet?!  She LOVES going out with Daddy to help work in the dirt.

Grace's FIRST POPSICLE EXPERIENCE!

06/17/12
Can you believe this day was the first day she'd ever eaten a Popsicle all by herself?  She usually licks ours, so this was a huge jump for her!  It sure was a difficult task, but she did her best, and with a few lap spills, chunks on the ground, and sticky fingers, she did it!
First of all, our dinner is cooking :)  Of course I can't remember what it is, but whatever :)  It was good, that's all I know.
Here she is!  It's a strawberry Popsicle "Otter Pop."  She didn't really know what to do at first, but once I showed her the sweet opening, she definitely knew what to do!!!
Look at the concerned face!!!I think she's not really liking the cold of it, but the sweet kept her going.
She's checking out the popsicle to see the goodness!  Great job girly!!  Soon after this, half of it ended up in her lap, along with a bunch of juice.  But that's ok, she did wonderfully for her first time.

Things we Did "The Day After"

06/15/12

I know I already posted about this day but there were things I left out so I thought I would put them in now.
These are water beads that are normally used for decorative plants, but we decided to use them to play with!

So you add your water with the help of a little beauty...
 and over time they expand...
and this isn't even how big they get.  In about 6 hours..well, more like 10, they were big balls, about the size of marbles.  This was fun to play with, and she had a blast with them for about 3 days before she started mouthing them, so after that, they were gone!

Sunny Monday

Well today has started out well.  Up early and ready to go into Idaho Falls for groceries.  Grace's eyes are just about clear; it's as though she has mild allergies and they are slightly pink.  Great news?  She put her Capris on ALL BY HERSELF!!!  The only thing I helped with was pulling them up in the back over her diaper.  GOOD JOB!!

Off to Idaho Falls.  I'll update with pictures during naptime today!

Home

We are home now.  It's finally late in the evening so it's cool enough to be comfortable!  Not much to share; just glad we got home safely.

Montana

We've been in Montana since Tuesday and are really enjoying ourselves.  It's just 5 of us, including Grace, and so the times you get that are quiet are actually filled with the beautiful sounds of birds singing.  We got in Tuesday about 1 pm, then Mom and Dad got here. The boys worked on furniture in the shop while the girls hung out inside!  Wednesday was beautiful, so we played around, went on walks, Brad and Dad did some more work, and in the evening Brad, myself and Grace went on a walk, got our feet soaked in a field that's being irrigated, and Grace did a great job at throwing rocks in a creek!  She used both hands too!  Today is Thursday and so far we've napped (I did NOT feel well this morning but am doing better now), and the boys are still working.  Grace and I went on the four wheeler before nap time, and we got to go scare the cows and Grace loved when I stopped in the middle of a big herd so she could say hi to them all!  Now she's down for nap and it's time for me to get some homework done.

Another Windy day

Not much to report, as today is pretty much the same as all the other days.  Woke up, had breakfast, filled our day with a trip to some stores to pass the time, lunchtime, nap time, and now therapy time for Grace.  Can you believe I didn't take her this time!!!  Ah, I actually get some quiet all to myself time :)  It's nice.

Sunday the Windy Day

Today was church day but Grace didn't get to go because she was recovering from her surgery.  No way was I going to take her somewhere that could get her sick, get her to be hurt by the kids, or anything else!  So Daddy stayed with her, and I went by myself.  Now it's hang out time at home, as it's SO windy out side that we can't go out.  Grace tried to go with Daddy earlier but she kept holding her eyes closed, so we figured out that the wind was hurting her eyes.  So now we are locked inside darnit!

Her eyes are bloodier in the corners, so I'm hoping that is normal and not a sign that the stitches are tearing.  It's especially bad in the left eye.  We'll see what happens.

Beautiful Day

Oh today is a great day!  Grace is doing great, once again we've not needed pain medication or arm braces, and Grace is as happy as she's ever been.  Daddy and Ryan are back from there overnight trip with the church, and the bench and rockers are done being built.  Grace is napping, and we've had a pretty good day :)  Later there will be a bike ride, playing and of course swinging in the backyard, and hopefully some other fun things going on!!

The Day After

So we are home, we are happy, and we are loving that we've got 2-3 weeks before we have to go to Utah again for a check up.  Grace is acting like her normal self, doesn't have to wear the arm braces anymore (I've actually caught site of her going to rub and stopping herself!) and hasn't needed pain medication at all.  She's such a strong little girl and I'm so glad I am able to see her strength shine through!
Bright and early in the morning here we are with arm braces.  They came off pretty quickly after this, and I was so impressed to see that she'd learned not to itch.  That's just how amazing Grace is!

Fake smile, but that's ok :)  Still early waking up, so that's expected.

Check out her eyes!  Straight and beautiful, even though they were beautiful before.  The red is what's left over from the surgery, and that will clear up in a few days.

I am so glad this is over.  I was so happy to see her strength, and to see how well she is coping with this whole thing.

Grace's Surgery Day

06/14/12

So today is the big day.  The day that makes Mommy want to throw up, and grab Grace and run away, far far away from there.  But we couldn't.  We all had to be strong, and supportive of Grace.

The night went, and the morning came.  There's little miss Grace in her homemade pajamas.  those are special pajamas worn for special occasions.
Look at Miss Sweet Grace!!  Isn't she the most cutest little one in the world?  See her eye turning in.  That will definitely be changed in just a few hours!
Our Ronald McDonald Bedroom!  Isn't very big, but it's just big enough for us to fit comfortably.
The other side of the room.
And the bathroom on the left with the exit door on the right.
Look at miss silly Grace!  I just love it when she makes silly faces at me.
At the Primary Childrens, we had to visit the cute little metal bugs that they had in the plants.
And of COURSE we had to visit the colorful horse!  I don't think, actually I'm pretty positive that we weren't supposed to be visiting the horse this way, but Brad says that sometimes you just have to do the fun stuff, even if it's wrong!  I guess, in this occasion, that's right.
 Look at this darling bug!!
BEEP BEEP!  This is the first time she's ever ridden in this car ever in her life, and she loved it!!
Vroom Vroom!!  I thought she looked so cute in this fire engine.
There was a pretty big play are for the kids to play while we were waiting for her to go back to pre-op.
I absolutely love the mural.  There are even hidden little animals that are all throughout the mural, so even Brad and I had fun looking for all the different animals.
Here's the right side of the mural.  See the cat fish?  Next to Brad's knee.
Here is our beeper that we had to hold until it was our turn.
 So excited!
 Hurray!
This face makes you think that she knows what's going to happen.  She's got her Mr. Monkey with her to keep her company.

So, we were supposed to go in at 9:45 to sign in, and not have the surgery until 11:15 am, but we were blessed to have gone in at 9:45 am and they took us right back.  After all the blood pressure testing, heart rate, blah blah blah, we met with the opthamologist and discussed what would be happening.  They would open up her eyes, make slits on the muscles of each eye, and either tighten or loosen.  Then close her up!  I had to sadly give her away to the anesthesiologist, and held it together until I turned away from him, and then I couldn't even talk.  We went to the same day operating waiting room, where we walked up to the receptionist and I couldn't talk.  She about started balling..."oh boy...oh gosh..." is what she said as she rapidly blinked the tears away."  I took a deep breath, and as the tears are pouring down, I let her know that it's just a simple surgery, but that "its just so darn hard...gosh...I didn't even cry for her spine surgery...sorry...it's just hard...to see her go."  Blah, even now I'm getting choked up.  We waited for about 40 minutes, and then Dr. Hoffman came in and said those words that made me get all choked up again..."Everything went perfectly."  And he went on to say the second best thing..."we did less than we had to."  Everything else was pretty much a blur, but when he said we had to wait again I was kinda ticked!  About 25 minutes later I went back to see her, barely holding it together when I saw her like below.
After surgery...she had fussed a tad, so they gave her two doses of some sort of medication, and so she was out for an hour.  They started to get worried, as did we, and Brad had to roughly rub her feet so that she would wake up.
Daddy is sitting by waiting for his Princess to awaken from her deep sleep.
Finally awake, and not a happy camper.  She had to drink the full cup, and wake up enough.  We had to stay for about another hour because we wanted her to drink, wanted her to wake up enough, and just the preparations of getting her ready to go.  We had gotten her eye drops and I tried to make an appointment with the doctor to come back for a checkup, but after getting lost in the huge hospital for about 10 minutes, I found that the office was closed!
Oh, definitely not happy.  She has to wear arm braces so that she wouldn't rub her eyes.  She hated these things so much.
Oh my poor sad girly.  Not long after this picture she was able to get to sleep, so she wasn't so fussy anymore.  She pretty much slept the whole way home, and when she did wake up, she was pretty whiny.  We stopped off at Subway, and of course people were staring SO MUCH while we were there.  I know they are just curious, and it didn't bother me as much as me wanting to let them know what's going on with her.  I think that people should ask, and feel ok asking, rather than staring and wondering.  I would be happy with people asking, because then it's not as awkward as staring.
Look at those sad eyes.  Darnit.  But do you see how much straighter the eyes are :)  We just HAD to get some fresh air, which is why we went outside.  I was told that the sun would be bad for her eyes, but I wasn't going to keep her stuck in the house, so we just stayed away from the sunshine.
This was the first thing Brad did when we got home.  He just loves his garden, and was so happy to get there and relax by watering his garden.
Trying to be happy despite being in pain and having scratchy eyes.  The stitches in the eyes feels like she's got a bunch of sand in her eyes.
Oh darnit.  Not happy.  This went on throughout most of the day/night.
Our tags for Grace.  The red was for the house, and the pink was to let the doctors know we belonged to Grace.
And when all else fails, Sesame Street!!
My poor little girl has been through so much, and she's such a trooper.
See how sore her eyes look?  I can't wait for her to be fully healed, ready to go swimming, bathing, and playing with friends.

You are so strong sweety.  I love you.
